Amman, April 2009 – Within its aims to establish a comprehensive, world-class and environmentally-friendly resort, Munya Specialized Resorts - one of the tourism development subsidiaries under Jordan Dubai Properties (JD Properties), the investment arm of Jordan Dubai Capital in the tourism and real estate sectors - announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA). The MOU puts forward a clear framework to ensure that the project is implemented in accordance with both parties' environmental protection commitments in the area.
The memorandum is in line with the Higher Regulatory Council's requirements in this regard; Munya will collaborate with the MOA to implement the project in strict adherence to environmentally sound criteria that will enable the preservation of the location's natural habitat. This includes limiting the number of trees that will be removed and replanting what can be replanted in cooperation with specialists in the field. Munya is also committed to planting 10,000 trees in a predetermined location, to be agreed upon with MOA. Furthermore a special committee will be created to follow up on the progress of the project to ensure that the set environmental regulations are being met.
"We are very pleased with the signing of this memorandum, which reflects Munya and the Ministry's mutual interest in preserving the environment and forests of the area," commented Mr. Nidal Khawaja, Munya's General Manager. "We at Munya have been careful to adopt the latest techniques in order to guarantee the successful replanting and relocation of the trees. This project is the first of its kind in the Kingdom and we will strive to ensure that it plays a tangible role in positively impacting the community so that every Jordanian citizen can take pride in it.
Mr. Khawaja further added: "This project was designed to showcase the rich local culture and distinctive natural environment surrounding Dibeen to help stimulate national economic growth and positively influence the local community by offering a unique tourism experience that contributes to promoting Jordan as an ideal tourism destination on the international arena."
